Some years ago a renewed interest in free-piston Stirling engine converters (FPSE) for use in space power applications was demonstrated by NASA. It combines a simple design and very high efficiency. On the other hand, these systems are demonstrating long life capability with low maintenance. At RR Energy, we think that such a engine could be built at low cost for rural development. Many people are not connected to the grid in developing countries, and they often have a stove running all day long for different purposes. The heat lost would be converted into electricity with such a device to load a battery. The aimed output is about 50W, which can be sufficient to provide needed energy of a household.
